Auckland's port plays a crucial role in the region's economy, with nearly three-quarters of its inbound cargo staying within the Auckland and Upper Waikato region. Strategically located on Auckland's doorstep, the port offers quick delivery of goods at low costs while focusing on reducing its carbon footprint to become more sustainable.

The port is seeking an experienced Health Safety and Workplace Wellbeing Specialist to join its team, ensuring the highest standards of workplace safety and wellbeing for frontline workers and operations.

The successful candidate will report directly to the Senior Health Safety and Wellbeing Business Partner and be responsible for monitoring workplace conditions and frontline workers' safety within the operational environment. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Monitoring workplace conditions and frontline workers' safety directly within the operational environment, approximately 70% of the time.
  2. Leading and/or contributing to Health, Safety, and Wellbeing work programmes as per the HSW strategic grid and rolling out/delivering within agreed set timeframes.
  3. Providing advice, support, and assistance to resolve Health, Safety, and Wellbeing-related issues, problems, and events identified by stakeholders within agreed timeframes.
  4. Leading the delivery of health safety and wellbeing initiatives within defined areas of the business.
  5. Supporting and assisting managers with incident investigation, hazard management, safe working practices, and the management of corrective actions.
  6. Coordinating and delivering regular monitoring and verification activities of all areas of the Port to assure safe working practices.
  7. Reviewing events placed in the online Event/Incident Management Software, communicating/coaching with the Event Reporter to improve data input to ensure adequate trend analysis.
  8. Engaging with leadership teams for effective implementation of safety measures.
  9. Supporting Health & Safety Reps to take an active and leading role in the promotion of a safe workplace.
