About the Individual:
The individual we support is non-verbal but understands basic sign language and uses gestures to communicate. They may experience frustration due to communication challenges or changes in routine. A calm, patient, and proactive approach is essential to maintaining a positive environment. Strong preferences for routines and activities may make transitions challenging. As a Life Skills Coach, you will play a key role in fostering effective communication and a person-centered approach. This requires patience, empathy, and strong problem-solving skills. Active listening and adaptability will enable you to respond effectively to different situations, while knowledge of communication methods and behaviour management techniques ensures quality support.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Practical Experience: Candidates must have at least one year of direct experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum, which provides essential understanding of the unique needs and behaviours associated with autism.
  • Full NZ Driver's license
  • Legal right to work in New Zealand
  • Certificate in Health and Wellbeing, Level 3 and above
  • Must be willing to undergo criminal and Oranga Tamariki checks
  • Valid first aid certificate
