Executive Counsel

Talley's Limited, a proud New Zealand owned and operated company, is seeking an experienced Executive Counsel to lead its internal legal function.

About the Role

This newly created role reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and involves establishing and managing Talley's internal legal function, developing systems and processes to proactively identify and manage risk.

You will deliver pragmatic, commercial, and solutions-focused advice on a diverse range of strategic and operational matters, ensuring that risk and commerciality are well balanced and all operations are compliant with relevant legislation.

The remit of legal work is incredibly varied with local and global dimensions, including advising on commercial and contractual arrangements, corporate law and governance matters, disputes and litigation, employment, health & safety, IP, competition, property, environmental, and risk compliance matters.

You will contribute your expertise to strategic projects, ensure the business is updated on legal and regulatory changes, deliver internal training in relevant areas, and manage relationships with external legal providers.

What We're Looking For

A qualified lawyer with a New Zealand practicing certificate (or eligibility to hold one), with a minimum of 8 years of post-qualification experience ideally with a background in corporate and commercial law.

You should have a high level of commercial awareness, the ability to provide pragmatic, solutions-focused advice, proven leadership skills, and strategic ability.

Strong legal analysis, interpretation, and negotiation skills, excellent communication skills, and an effective communicator who builds relationships with a collaborative and consultative style.

Estimated Salary: $180,000 - $220,000 per annum
