Nursing Opportunity in Tairawhiti

This role offers a chance to make a significant difference in the lives of older people in Tairawhiti. The Healthy Ageing service has been established to collaborate with older individuals, their whānau, health stakeholders, and the community to provide access to healthcare services and supports that enable them to 'live well, age well and have a respectful end of life in age-friendly communities.'

The nursing role reports directly to the Service Manager and is crucial to the functioning of the service. This position works across inpatient and community settings, focusing on assessing patients for Home and Community Support Services in their homes.

The role coordinates a team of well-trained and supported Allied Health Assistants who carry out tasks assigned by the nurse. If you are interested in applying your nursing knowledge to our patients, including those admitted to our hospital and those we can avoid admission for, and want to gain experience in this field, then this role may be suitable.

  1. A minimum of two years of Nursing experience
  2. Experience with coordination and scheduling
  3. Excellent oral and record-keeping skills
  4. Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
  5. Competency with Te Ao Māori, Tikanga, and Te Reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth (mandatory)
  6. Experience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings. (mandatory)
  7. Having an empathetic and friendly disposition is vital as is an excellent approach to problem solving, the ability to organise and to remain calm under pressure.
