Animal Identification Specialist

The role of Senior NAIT Officer/Nait Officer is to provide expertise in the National Animal Identification and Tracing Act 2012 (NAIT Act) and NAIT scheme. As a warranted officer, you will gain sound knowledge on all aspects of the NAIT scheme and apply system thinking to proactively identify areas of non-compliance.
About the RoleThis enables the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) to respond quickly in the case of a serious biosecurity outbreak or natural disaster. The traceability of this programme is also important for food safety and quality assurance.
- Gain sound knowledge on all aspects of the National Animal Identification and Tracing Act 2012 (NAIT Act) and NAIT scheme.
- Apply system thinking to proactively identify areas of non-compliance in the NAIT scheme.
- Expertly apply the appropriate legislative tools to enable effective detection, reporting, and investigation of NAIT scheme non-compliance.
You will be required to travel within New Zealand and assist Animal Welfare Inspectors as needed.
Required Skills and QualificationsYou will ideally have:
- Experience in animal production systems and knowledge of agricultural sectors.
- A high degree of analytical capability along with an interest in working through large complex data sets.
- Practical working knowledge or be able to demonstrate the potential to develop knowledge of the laws under which investigations and compliance activities operate.
Tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent regulatory, compliance, and enforcement experience would be an advantage.
