About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Career Development Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting personalized assessments to create career and employment plans with recommendations and timelines.

Your key responsibilities will include performing full English language assessments that inform the plan and guide referral decisions. You will also collaborate with the team, monitor client progress, update plans, make referrals, and advocate for clients when needed.

  1. Conduct individual assessments of transferable work skills and personal attributes, and collect information on educational and employment backgrounds.
  2. Assess English language skills to feed into the employment plan.
  3. Develop a plan with the client, including clear training/education pathways leading to employment.
  4. Navigate networking opportunities with training/education and service providers, as well as employers in the region.
  5. Foster relationships with relevant employers to grow employment opportunities for low-skilled, skilled, and professional individuals from refugee backgrounds.
  6. Making effective referrals to appropriate agencies, ensuring seamless linkages, including advocacy for access to services.
  7. Demonstrate cross-cultural understanding both internally and externally.
  8. Enter data into our Pathways to Employment database.
  9. Proven skill in second language teaching to adults and experience assessing language competencies.
  10. Awareness of English language requirements and skills required to study at a New Zealand tertiary institution (desirable).
  11. The ability to guide career planning.
  12. Excellent IT skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
  13. Awareness of New Zealand employers' priorities and familiarity with employment sectors in the region.
  14. Confidence in assessing work readiness and preparing individuals for job search activities.
  15. Competence in intercultural communication and experience working with people from diverse backgrounds.
  16. Understanding of the refugee journey and common issues faced during the resettlement process.
