Job Description

Auckland Council seeks a seasoned professional to fill the position of Building Surveyor Inspector in our Premium Services team. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in building surveying and inspection, with a strong understanding of weather tightness principles and remediation design.

The role involves providing technical advice and contributing to the re-clad process for all consents, applying key principles and deliverables for the Building Control team and legislative requirements. This is a specialist role that requires expertise in determining when Consents have demonstrated compliance with the Building Code and subsequently approving the issue of the consent.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect building work to ensure compliance with building codes, building consent authority's policies, and other legislative requirements, and make appropriate technical decisions on inspection outcomes
  • Provide accurate and timely advice to customers, builders, and developers regarding complex technical and procedural requirements
  • Apply sound reasons for decisions and maintain accurate, robust records of inspections

Requirements:

  • NZ Trade Certificate or equivalent related building industry qualification (or related discipline)
  • At least 5 years of cumulative experience in a building surveying and inspection-related regulatory environment
  • A comprehensive understanding of the Building Act, Building Code, and technical & structural integrity aspects of building design and construction standards
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong customer service focus with a solution-oriented approach, while upholding high ethical standards during inspections and enforcement activities
