The New Zealand Government seeks a highly experienced Senior Adviser - General Assembly to join our team at the Permanent Mission in New York. As a key member of our diplomatic corps, you will support the Permanent Representative in delivering our mission's key priorities in the UN General Assembly.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the advancement of New Zealand's foreign policy and support the achievement of our nation's presence and participation in the UN General Assembly. You will work closely with representatives from other Member States, the UN Secretariat and relevant Agencies, and relevant think tanks and NGOs.

Key Responsibilities

  • ">
  • Contribute to the advancement of New Zealand's foreign policy by providing analytical and effective policy advice.">
  • Support the achievement of New Zealand's presence and participation in the UN General Assembly.">
  • Manage priority initiatives and produce long-term strategic reporting in line with New Zealand's interests at the UN.">

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • ">
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the UN and how it operates, with a particular focus on the General Assembly.">
  • Ability to quickly form relationships and networks with representatives from other Member States, the UN Secretariat and relevant Agencies, and relevant think tanks and NGOs, all while demonstrating cultural sensitivity.">
  • Proven skills in written and oral communication including the ability to effectively present New Zealand positions and negotiate for desired outcomes.">
  • Understanding of The Treaty of Waitangi/Te Tiriti, Te Reo Maori and Maori customs and protocols would be beneficial.">
