Job Description

We are seeking an experienced researcher to join our Remanufacturing Process Technology group. As a Research Scientist, you will have opportunities to participate in research projects related to welding and Directed Energy Deposition (DED) processes. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Understanding and optimizing process parameters for arc welding and DED of steels, Ni-based alloys, Al-alloys, metal matrix composites, and other novel materials.
  • Optimizing and establishing the correlation between process parameters, microstructure, defects, and part performances.
  • Development of hybrid manufacturing processes for multimaterials forming and fabrication.
  • Development of DED toolpaths and deposition strategies for enhanced part forming consistency and quality.
  • Operating robot-based or CNC equipment with blown powder and wire delivery for R&D and industry projects.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • A PhD in Mechanical Engineering / Materials / Metallurgy.
  • At least 3 years of R&D experience in laser materials processing.
  • Knowledge in directed energy deposition process or welding.
  • A strong background in understanding and correlating process, microstructure, and properties in welded and additive manufactured metallic alloys.
  • Effective individual contributor and collaborator skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
