About the Role:

The Department of Conservation is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Community Ranger in the Tongariro region. This role will focus on the statutory elements of community work, including maintaining and developing relationships with members of the community.

As a Community Ranger, you will be responsible for processing permit applications, monitoring commercial and private activity on Public Conservation Land, building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and supporting whānau, hapū and iwi in their role as kaitiaki of te taiao.

You will also have the opportunity to work with community groups to scope work projects on conservation land, operate within a statutory framework, and promote the value of local, regional, and national conservation initiatives.

About You:

We are looking for an individual who is a proven team player, well-organised, and great at relationships, communication, and problem-solving. You will be versatile and resilient, able to tackle a variety of work, and have experience working within a statutory framework or similar process-based analytical environment.

You will also need excellent communication skills, presenting information clearly and concisely both written and verbally, and solid IT skills, comfortable using database systems. Proven problem-solving, critical-thinking, and analysis skills, with the ability to provide mutually beneficial outcomes, are also essential.
