We're seeking an experienced Mental Health Specialist to join our Youth Forensic or General Psychiatry team at Wakari Hospital. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you'll be responsible for delivering high-quality psychiatric care to young individuals within the Southern region.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the legal and ethical landscape, as well as experience working with child services and neurodevelopment pathways. You'll be responsible for overseeing comprehensive psychiatric assessments, including risk assessments for self-harm, harm to others, and vulnerability.
Job Description:This role is a district-wide position, requiring travel within the Southern District. You'll work closely with our multidisciplinary team to deliver specialised mental health services to youth involved in the forensic system.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans incorporating pharmacological interventions, psychotherapy, and behavioural strategies.
- Prepare forensic reports and provide expert testimony in court, clearly communicating complex psychiatric concepts to legal professionals.
- Build strong relationships with young patients, taking into account their developmental stage, cultural background, and individual experiences.
You'll also participate in professional development activities such as CPD groups, journal clubs, and grand rounds. With our strong links to the Otago Medical School, you'll have opportunities to teach medical students and registrars.
