About Us
Airways New Zealand manages New Zealand's 30 million square kilometers of airspace, providing air traffic control, surveillance, communication, flight inspection, mapping, and airspace design services. Our people work with government, regulatory authorities, airlines, airports, and the general aviation community to ensure pilots, passengers, and goods reach their destination safely.
The Technology business unit is responsible for delivering, managing, and servicing technology disciplines within the air navigation services environment. This includes engineering design, software design and development, technology architecture, infrastructure, asset management, installation and maintenance, technical training, workload planning, maintenance program development, project management, and logistics support.
The IT&SM team improves the organization's performance and supports the Airways strategy through IT, digital services, and leadership. We lead the provision of good practice IT, digital services, and systems in areas such as workplace technology, corporate business applications, digital engagement, digital document management, Information management, IT operations, and desktop support.
Job Description
This is a critical engineering and leadership role focused on ensuring the security, availability, and performance of Airways' IT infrastructure (end-user computing devices and corporate infrastructure). As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will drive technical excellence, mentor team members, contribute to IT strategy, and make a direct impact on New Zealand's aviation services.
Your Role
- You will be part of a dynamic team responsible for delivering, managing, and servicing technology disciplines within the air navigation services environment.
- You will work with cross-functional teams, including developers, architects, and project managers, to foster an environment where innovation and problem-solving thrive.
- You will champion the adoption of modern technologies, including cloud services, automation, and infrastructure as code.
- You will ensure compliance with security standards, ITIL best practices, and regulatory requirements.
Requirements

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Relevant qualifications and certifications, e.g., degree, diploma, or vendor certification.
