About this role:

We are seeking an experienced Animal Control Team Leader to provide operational management and leadership to the Animal Control team. This critical role will be to lead, coach, develop and mentor a team of passionate Animal Control Officers to ensure community safety through education and enforcement of relevant legislation.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with dog ownership legislation and local by-laws
  • Maintain professionalism and consistency
  • Model expected behaviours, values, and attitudes to uphold customer service standards
  • Investigate serious incidents and make informed decisions on enforcement actions
  • Support the development of your team through training and coaching
  • Manage health and safety risks in a high-risk environment
  • Drive continuous improvement by finding innovative ways to reduce costs, waste, and increase productivity

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing teams engaged in regulatory duties
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Able to remain calm under pressure
  • Dedicated to adhering to health and safety requirements
  • Thorough understanding of complex legislation and technical matters relating to animal control, welfare, impounding, and local government
  • Current full driver's licence
  • Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, te ao Maori and tikanga
