Auckland Council is seeking an experienced Urban Design professional to lead the development of the Maori Design Kaupapa Programme. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of Maori design principles and a strong commitment to creating positive urban outcomes for Maori communities.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Maori Design Kaupapa Programme, ensuring the integration of Maori design principles into key strategies and plans.
  • Provide expert Maori urban design input into major projects, including the Auckland Plan 2050 and Auckland Unitary Plan.
  • Mentor and support the development of Maori design capability within the Tamaki Makaurau Design Ope.
  • Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with Mana Whenua, Mataawaka, elected members, and external stakeholders.

About You:

  • You are a strategic thinker with extensive experience in urban design or a related field, supported by a relevant qualification such as a bachelor's degree in urban planning, landscape architecture, architecture, urban design, or an equivalent field.
  • Your leadership roles have enhanced your expertise, and you have a deep understanding of Maori design principles, with a strong commitment to creating positive urban outcomes for Maori communities.
  • You have excellent communication and relationship-building skills, and you are adept at working with diverse stakeholders to integrate Maori design principles into projects.
