About the Role

We are seeking a skilled High-Level Policy Strategist to join our Policy Unit at NEMA.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in scoping and leading strategic policy advice, including options analysis.

You will be part of a dynamic team that provides emergency management-related policy advice to government, the emergency management sector, and wider national security system.

Your primary focus will be on strategic policy matters that impact the emergency management system, working closely with the Strategic Policy Team and Operational Policy Team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead policy advice related to reform programs for the emergency management system
  • Analyse and coordinate second opinion advice on the policy work of other agencies that have an interface with the emergency management system
  • Provide policy advice to the Minister, NEMA Executive Leadership Team, and operational teams in NEMA on new policy settings

You will also have the opportunity to work on high-profile projects, build relationships with key stakeholders, and contribute to the development of policies that shape the future of New Zealand's emergency management system.

Requirements
  • Proven experience in scoping and leading strategic policy advice
  • Ability to think strategically about issues using systems-thinking approaches
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • Excellent written capability to present complex ideas so they can be easily understood
  • Ability to adapt in quick-changing circumstances to deliver high-quality work under pressure
