About the Role

As a Risk Management Consultant with the Waikato Regional Council, you will play a key role in driving effective implementation of strategic risk management, compliance and business continuity activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to drive successful risk management initiatives.
  • Research and analyse environmental, social, economic and cultural trends and drivers of change, identifying potential impacts on WRC strategy and risk.
  • Work as a partner to the business, performing risk assessments, agreeing mitigation plans and monitoring progress.
  • Educate and empower the business on risk issues, building confidence in making informed decisions.
  • Proactively develop relationships with risk owners to embed and promote risk considerations across the council.
  • Oversee the council's internal audit programme, including oversight of recommendations and associated action plans.
  • Manage the review of WRC business continuity plan, coordinating planning and execution of regular exercises.
About You

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of strategic risk management, with experience in similar risk roles in complex organisations.
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.
  • Strategic and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • High motivation, innovation, curiosity and openness to new ways of working.
About the Team

You will report to the Manager Business Advisory Services, within the Finance and business services directorate. This team supports the Waikato Regional Council mission through provision of professional services, helping to care for the region's environment, economy and communities.
