About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Ophthalmic Specialist to join our close-knit team at Southland Hospital Eye Department. As a key member of our ophthalmology services, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing expert medical care to patients with ophthalmic conditions
  • Participating in on-call rosters, routine clinics, and theatre sessions
  • Developing and implementing new treatment plans and procedures
  • Maintaining accurate records and communicating effectively with patients and colleagues

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A specialist qualification in ophthalmology or equivalent
  • Eligibility for vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principles and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings
