About the Role
  • Partner with engineering leadership to provide expert guidance on health and safety matters.
  • Deliver a health and safety work plan aligned with Auckland Airport's overall safety strategy.
  • Promote proactive risk management and continuous safety improvement.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Act as a trusted advisor to engineering leadership team, providing expert guidance on health and safety (H&S) matters.
  2. Deliver H&S work plan, aligned with Auckland Airport's overall safety strategy.
  3. Promote a culture of proactive risk management and continuous safety improvement.
  4. Conduct risk assessments and safety audits for engineering projects, maintenance, and infrastructure works.
  5. Lead or support investigations into engineering-related incidents, near misses, and safety breaches.
  6. Collaborate with engineers, project managers, contractors, and airport operations teams to integrate safety into all engineering activities.
  7. Champion a people-first mindset across engineering teams and contractors.
  8. Prepare H&S performance reports for senior management and regulatory bodies.
  9. Stay updated on global best practices in health and safety for aviation and engineering industries.
  10. Identify and implement new technologies or methodologies to enhance safety performance.
Requirements
  • Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent combination of qualifications and experience.
  • 5+ years experience in HS&W roles is required, experience specialising in an engineering environment will be extremely valuable.
  • NZISM membership and HASANZ registration desirable.
  • A strong leader and team player, with demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across functional lines.
  • Sound business writing and verbal communication skills.
  • A customer-centric mindset coupled with excellent relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated success in influencing change and effecting good outcomes.
  • Ability to think strategically and manage business complexity.
  • SOUND working knowledge of relevant legal frameworks in New Zealand.
