About The Role

You will be part of our Policy Unit, providing emergency management-related policy advice to government, the emergency management sector, and wider national security systems. The role involves helping progress an Emergency Management Bill and managing machinery of government processes.

As an Operational Policy Expert, you will develop and implement government policy, analyze regulatory designs, and manage secondary legislation. Your strong communication and influencing skills will enable you to proactively build collaborative internal and external stakeholder relationships.

Your Key Responsibilities

Develop operational policy using relevant frameworks and analytical tools.Provide policy advice to government during emergencies and after.Analyze and coordinate second opinion advice on policy work impacting NEMA's roles.Potentially respond to national emergency responses with thorough training provided.

About You

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Proven experience scoping and leading operational policy projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in regulatory design and developing secondary legislation.
  • Ability to think strategically about issues using systems-thinking approaches.
  • Acts with an understanding of the Crown's obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

What We Offer
