Historic Claims Overview

Historic Claims, on behalf of the Ministry of Social Development, offers an Alternative Disputes Resolution Service (ADRS) to assist claimants who have raised concerns or allegations of abuse or neglect while in State care.

This service works closely with claimants to help them understand their past experiences in care, acknowledging and recognizing the harm they have endured, and taking steps to rectify these issues.

A key focus for Historic Claims is to deliver the best possible outcomes for claimants, ensuring they encounter a positive experience every time they interact with us.

Job Description: Specialist Claims Assessor

The Specialist Claims Assessor plays a crucial role in assessing claims against the Historic Claims assessment framework, utilizing relevant information to provide recommendations that support decision-making.

They work collaboratively with Team Leaders and Claims Advisors to make informed decisions regarding the acceptance of allegations, while also contributing to the development of efficient and effective policies and processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments of claims using the Historic Claims assessment framework
  • Work closely with Senior Claimant Support Specialists to gather relevant information and support claimants throughout the process
  • Prepare and contribute to claimant feedback sessions to offer closure and resolution
  • Compile concise, well-written assessments from large amounts of information
  • Ensure accurate recording of all relevant information throughout the assessment process
  • Demonstrate open-mindedness, a willingness to learn, and adaptability in this role
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
  • Display high self-awareness and ability to reflect on experiences
  • Exhibit effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Show logical reasoning skills
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and commitment to delivering high-quality results
  • Be committed to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and the development of culturally responsive services

Salary Range: $89,622 - $108,622
