At the Electoral Commission New Zealand, we are seeking a skilled Digital Quality Assurance Specialist to join our Information Technology team. This role is part of a great, supportive, and fun group enhancing the Commission's digital capabilities by modernising electoral events and maintaining electoral rolls.

This position requires a technology professional with experience in managing testing, assurance, and software releases in complex technology environments. You will be confident upholding quality standards throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and implementing new IT solutions aligned with agreed expectations and outcomes. Your expertise will uplift Test & Release capability in a uniquely challenging environment, bringing experience in where and how to implement this.

We are looking for candidates with:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and/or equivalent experience, with at least three years in Software testing, release management, or a related field.
  • Experience in managing testing and release processes in a software development environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • High level of computer literacy, including experience with testing tools and release management software.
  • Experience in Agile methodologies and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices.

The successful candidate will coordinate the testing process, manage outsourced vendors and testers, and oversee the entire release management process from planning through to post-implementation support. They will work closely with Systems Analysts and outsourced providers who undertake testing activities.

Primary deliverables for the Digital Quality Assurance Specialist include:

  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive testing strategy, ensuring all IT solutions conform to required quality standards.
  • Planning and leading testing activities across all stages of product, system, and service development, ensuring comprehensive test coverage.
  • Providing authoritative advice and guidance on test planning, execution, and the use of automated tools and techniques.
  • Measuring and monitoring adherence to testing standards, assessing risks, and implementing preventative measures.
  • Identifying improvements to testing processes and contributing to the development of organisational policies, standards, and guidelines for testing.
  • Planned, coordinating, and managing the release of new IT solutions and services, ensuring risk assessments are completed for each release.
  • Working closely with outsourced vendors to ensure all aspects of the release process, including deployment and post-implementation support, are effectively managed.
  • Collaborating with business and technology teams on release scheduling and communicating progress and issues during the release cycle.
  • Conducting post-release reviews to identify areas of improvement for future releases and ensuring release processes and procedures are followed.
  • Providing expert advice and guidance to promote the adoption of appropriate methods and tools in line with organisational policies and standards.
  • Managing relationships with outsourced vendors and testers, ensuring they deliver quality work in line with contractual agreements and organisational standards.
  • Being the primary point of contact for all testing and release-related activities, facilitating communication between the organisation, vendors, and stakeholders.
