Job Description

We are seeking experienced radio astronomers to join our team as SKA-Low Commissioning Research Scientists. In this role, you will play a critical part in planning, executing, and analyzing test observations on the array. Your primary tasks will include:

  • Take responsibility for science commissioning, including planning, execution, and analysis of test observations on the array.
  • Closely collaborate with the System Science Group based at GHQ (UK) to oversee commissioning of the SKA-Low Telescope.
  • Work closely with engineering groups involved in construction to verify aspects of the system and identify and correct faults.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • PhD in astronomy or physics, with substantial experience in observational radio astronomy.
  • Strong understanding of radio astronomical techniques, including interferometry, and demonstrated ability to reduce and interpret data from radio telescopes.
  • Good understanding of the science enabled by the SKA.
