Healthcare Lawyer Lead

The role of the Senior Legal Counsel is to provide high-quality, pragmatic in-house legal advice on health and privacy law to support clinical staff and leaders. This includes advising on investigations by external regulators, attending hearings and other forums, working with Police, assisting with reviews and disputes, and providing training to staff on health and privacy matters.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expert legal advice on health and privacy law to clinical staff and leaders.
- Advise on investigations by external regulators and represent the organisation at hearings and other forums.
- Work collaboratively with Police and assist with reviews and disputes.
- Develop and deliver training programs for staff on health and privacy matters.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- At least eight years' broad post-qualification health law experience, possibly in an in-house capacity.
- A proven ability to provide both reactive and proactive advice to a wide range of clients in a fast-moving and diverse environment.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
- A willingness to learn and grow, with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
To apply for this role, you must have:
- A Law degree (LLB or equivalent) and admission to the New Zealand Bar.
- Significant experience in health law, including knowledge of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 and the Privacy Act 2020.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and strategically.
- Experience working in a team environment, with the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
We offer a competitive salary package, including a base salary of $160,000 - $180,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus benefits such as annual leave, sick leave, and public holidays.
