About the Role

As a Civil Engineering Specialist at Christchurch City Council, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the delivery of the Council's Capital Programme. You will work within our Technical Services & Design Unit to manage contracts effectively and ensure construction projects are completed on time, to budget, and scope.

You will be responsible for dealing with community concerns while construction is taking place and may be involved in tender evaluations. A key aspect of this role will be working directly with contractors to monitor progress and maintain relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that Council projects and physical works contracts are managed efficiently
  • Support the delivery of a significant portion of the Council's annual construction expenditure
  • Audit works to be vested in the council asset, including maintenance and consent work relating to water, stormwater, landscape, building, structural, sewer or roading

Requirements

  • A qualification aligned to Civil Engineering, or extensive experience in one or more of the areas of stormwater management, or parks/landscape
  • Practical application, with experience in contracting or working alongside contractors
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor costs and work within budgets
  • Demonstrated ability in relationship management, negotiation and persuasion
