Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Permissions Treaty Advisor to join our team at the Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai. As a key member of our Permissions Team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that activities on public conservation land are undertaken in a manner that protects the values of the land and complies with legislation.

In this challenging and rewarding role, you will utilise your strong knowledge of Treaty principles to provide advice to Permissions Advisors and decision makers. You will also contribute to the development of operational policy and best practice in relation to the Treaty of Waitangi.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilise Your Knowledge of Treaty Principles: Provide expert advice to Permissions Advisors and decision makers to ensure we are giving effect to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.
  • Regulate the Use of Conservation Land: Help regulate the use of conservation land and interactions with our wildlife.
  • Experience Working with Planning and Legislative Processes: Experience working with planning and legislative processes is essential for this role.
  • Experience Working with Relevant Conservation Legislation: Experience working with relevant conservation legislation is required.
  • Analyse Complex Information: Analyse large amounts of complex information to produce high-quality reports and succinct recommendations.
  • Manage a Busy Caseload: Experience and skill in managing a busy caseload is necessary.
