Job Description
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is seeking an experienced emergency management policy advisor to join our Policy Unit. As part of our Operational Policy Team, you will work closely with government agencies and stakeholders to develop and implement effective emergency management policies. You will be responsible for analysing complex policy issues, developing strategic advice, and providing support to the Minister and NEMA Executive on operational policy matters.

Key Accountabilities
* Develop and implement operational policy frameworks and guidelines
* Provide strategic advice to government on emergency management policy
* Analyse complex policy issues and develop recommendations
* Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve policy objectives
* Provide day-to-day operational policy advice to the Minister and NEMA Executive
* Respond to emergency activations as required by NEMA's operational agency role

Essential Skills and Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and influencing skills, and experience in regulatory design and development. You will also have the ability to think strategically about issues using systems-thinking approaches and apply Maori perspectives to policy advice. An existing understanding of emergency management, national security, and/or risk management would be an advantage.
