About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Animal Welfare Director to lead our team in Invercargill. This is a key leadership role that requires strong leadership, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee all aspects of daily operations at the Centre, including leading our people and caring for our animals.
  • Create a safe and supportive working environment where staff and volunteers can efficiently and effectively carry out their duties.
  • Promote unity by developing and maintaining strong relationships with other SPCA Centres and the local community.
  • Develop and maintain relationships and the local reputation of the SPCA brand.
  • Evaluate and ensure compliance with all statutory and legal obligations of the Centre and adherence with established guidelines, protocols, and policies.
  • Ensure animal welfare is always a primary consideration, and all animals under the responsibility of SPCA Invercargill are cared for appropriately.
  • Proactively manage and embed a culture of Health & Safety within the organization.

Requirements

  • Proven leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Practical experience in animal handling and knowledge.
  • Able to work to a budget, meet deadlines, and achieve targets.
  • Demonstrated empathy and resilience.
  • Strong organizational abilities with attention to detail.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Able to manage stress and handle emotional situations.
