Role Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Cultural Experiences Public Program team at Puke Ariki Museum and Govett-Brewster. As a Māori Cultural Programs Specialist, you will work with other like-minded professionals to design and deliver public engagement programs that are responsive to the needs of the Māori and Taranaki communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, communicate, and deliver impactful Māori public programmes in collaboration with museum curators and gallery teams.
  • Consult with internal and external stakeholders, including iwi, hapū, and community groups, to determine relevant program content and participants.
  • Plan, coordinate, and communicate overall program details, providing content for marketing and communication purposes.
  • Maintain good working relationships with iwi, hapū, and whānau, contributing to a positive team culture.
Essential Skills and Experience
  • Tertiary qualification in Arts, Māori or Toi Māori Studies, Education, Museum or Cultural Studies, or related field.
  • Minimum three years' experience in a gallery or museum educational institution, preferably in public programs.
  • Working proficiency in Te Reo and experience applying Matauranga Māori and Te Reo in a museum or gallery context.
  • Knowledge of tikanga and ability to practice manaakitanga, kaitiakitanga, māramatanga, and whanaungatanga within the role.
