Job Overview

New Plymouth District Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead our Resource Consents team as a Planning Lead. The successful candidate will oversee the planning process, manage a team of planners, and collaborate with stakeholders to shape the future growth and development of New Plymouth District.

About the Role

This pivotal role requires strong RMA expertise, with the ability to process complex resource consent applications and provide expert evidence at planning hearings. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in a resource management field, preferably in local government, and be eligible for membership of a professional institute.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the planning process and manage a team of planners
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to shape the future growth and development of New Plymouth District
  • Provide RMA expertise and process complex resource consent applications
  • Monitor workflow and team throughput to ensure compliance with statutory time frames
  • Drive continuous improvement, team training, and own team quality system
