Role Overview

The Mental Health Advocate Role at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Waikato involves supporting individuals with eating disorders to achieve their goals and live fulfilling lives. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, cultural competence, and a passion for advocating for marginalized communities.

The successful candidate will work closely with clinical staff to deliver evidence-based treatment and support to clients experiencing complex and severe eating disorders. We encourage applications from individuals who are eager to acquire new knowledge and apply it appropriately.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Developing peer relationships with clients based on mutuality and authenticity
  • Using lived experience to inspire hope and encouragement in the journey through the service
  • Promoting choice, self-determination, and active participation of the person
  • Understanding and promoting the importance of connections with family and whānau, communities, and other health services

A current full NZ drivers license and experience working with clients and families affected by eating disorders are essential requirements for this role.
