Job Overview

The Engineering Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the effective management and maintenance of plant assets at South Pacific Meats. This position involves leading a team of engineers to ensure minimal downtime due to engineering and maintenance requirements.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Group Engineering Manager and Improvement Engineers to facilitate and manage the installation and commissioning of plant improvement projects.

This role requires strong communication and organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and demands. The ability to focus on cost and resource management, as well as prioritize expenditure decisions, is essential for meeting business objectives.

The ideal candidate will provide confident leadership to an existing skilled engineering team and maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and enhance the team culture within the maintenance department.
  • Foster a strong focus on cost and resource management, prioritizing expenditure decisions to meet business objectives.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with a strong emphasis on preventative maintenance.
  • Demonstrated experience in a hygienic food manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems (MEX preferred but not essential).
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities, complemented by planning and judgment skills.
  • A leadership style that drives positive outcomes and fosters collaboration.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to upholding high standards of Health and Safety.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
Requirements

Appropriate qualifications and/or experience in the engineering field are required.

Prior knowledge of the Health & Safety at Work Act 2015 is beneficial, as is additional training in areas such as confined space and working at heights.

Candidates must have the right to live and work in New Zealand.
