The Special Education Advisor plays a critical role in achieving this vision by providing effective learning support to students who require it.

This is a permanent part-time role based in the Gisborne Office, servicing the Tairawhiti Region.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in working with students with high and complex needs, as well as challenging behavioural needs.

  • Technical knowledge and skills – having achieved a satisfactory level of technical and professional skill or knowledge in position-related areas; keeping up with current developments and trends in areas of expertise.
  • Building strategic relationships – developing and using collaborative relationships to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • Demonstrable knowledge, experience, and skills in supporting children and young people with severe and challenging behaviours.
  • An ability and willingness to work in collaboration with other professionals, agencies, families, and the sector.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including an ability to sustain productive professional relationships.
  • A genuine commitment to evidence-based interventions, which demonstrate inclusive education practice and contribute to raising student achievement.
  • Sensitivity to cultural and ethnic diversity and a commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.
