Job Overview

The Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) is seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join our team as a Ranger Community. In this role, you will support the South Marlborough District and the Northern South Island regional community team in delivering statutory work and community engagement.

About the Role

  • You will collaborate with iwi, local community groups, and businesses to support conservation and community engagement efforts.
  • You will deliver high-quality analysis and reporting on permissions for activities, including guiding, aircraft landings, sporting events, wildlife research, and marine mammal interactions.
  • You will engage with Treaty Partners on permissions and related matters.
  • You will provide support to the Kaikoura Marine Guardians in its operations and initiatives.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • A tertiary qualification in an environmental management/planning discipline, or equivalent experience in working with statutory authorities, community groups, iwi, or business groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with organisations, community groups, and private landowners effectively and positively.
  • A 'can do' attitude and proven excellent organisational skills, including the ability to balance competing demands, meet deadlines, and have a problem-solving approach.

Benefits

  • A salary range of $60,314 to $75,603, with flexible working supported.
  • A permanent, full-time role based in Renwick, with occasional weekend and evening work required.
