About the Role

We are seeking two general ophthalmologists with a passion for Medical Retina/Uveitis to join our team at Dunedin Public Hospital Eye Department in a full-time, permanent position.

The Southern District Health Board provides ophthalmology services to all of Otago and Southland. We require a dynamic individual with excellent time management skills to become an integral part of our team.

We offer opportunities for research, training registrars, and working closely with the University of Otago and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists.

This role involves participating in on-call rosters, clinics, theatre, and outreach clinics across the region.

To be successful, you must have completed specialist training and be eligible or hold vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participating in ophthalmic surgeries and consultations
  • Leading and mentoring junior staff
  • Developing and implementing clinical guidelines
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of best practices in ophthalmology

About You

  • Eligibility for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (FRANZCO or equivalent board certification)
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and mentoring junior staff
  • Excellent communication and time management skills

This role is covered by the ASMS Collective Agreement, with a salary range from Step 1 ($185,380) to Step 15 ($267,980 per annum pro rata).
