About the Role
The Dunedin Public Hospital Eye Department is seeking a dynamic and experienced Ophthalmologist to lead our team in providing high-quality eye care services to the community. As an integral part of our department, you will be responsible for delivering routine ophthalmology clinics, theatre sessions, and outreach clinics across the Southern District.
As a consultant-level Ophthalmologist, you will have completed your specialist training and hold vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council. Your expertise in medical retina/uveitis or other subspecialties will enable you to provide specialized care to patients in need.
Key Responsibilities
* Participate in the 1:4 on-call roster
* Deliver routine ophthalmology clinics and theatre sessions
* Provide outreach clinics across the Southern District
* Collaborate with the University of Otago and Otago Medical School for research and education opportunities
* Train registrars from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists
Requirements
* Eligibility for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
* FRANZCO or equivalent board certification (American Board of Ophthalmology, FRCSC, FRCOphth)
* Enthusiasm for teaching and passing knowledge to junior staff members
* Excellent communication and time management skills
