Customs Investigations Role Overview

The New Zealand Government is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Customs Officer to join its investigations team in Auckland.

This role involves contributing to the disruption and dismantling of transnational organised crime groups involved in drug trafficking. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and leading operational activity, coaching and mentoring team members, undertaking inquiries, interviews, and arresting offenders.

To succeed in this position, you must have a proven track record of enforcement experience, excellent relationship management skills, and the ability to handle sensitive information and situations well. You should also be methodical and dedicated to working to a high standard, with sound judgement and levelheadedness.

About This Role

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a high degree of autonomy and decision-making capability. As a Senior Customs Officer, you will be expected to lead operational activity and prosecution work, as well as coach and mentor colleagues.

You will be responsible for managing evidence and preparing files to an evidential standard, applying for and executing search warrants, and preparing prosecution files and giving evidence in court.

This role involves working out in the field and in diverse environments, including long hours, weekends, and public holidays, as well as travelling at short notice.
