About the Role The Health Care Assistant (HCA) position contributes to the successful operation of the nursing team.
The HCA is part of a collaborative health care team, assisting the Registered Nurse (RN) to meet patient needs when it is appropriate for the RN to delegate aspects of care to a trained unregulated healthcare role.
The HCA supports RNs on the children's ward by assisting with clinical and non-clinical tasks, releasing RN time to provide clinical patient care.
The role may involve supporting the eating disorder service and providing patient observation and engagement duties.
About the Team/Service/Location Wellington's Te Wao Nui Children's Hospital is a purpose-built facility that serves children and their whanau from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities.
As a tertiary center, it provides specialized healthcare for children in need of expert paediatric services.
The Child Health Service offers a comprehensive range of care, including inpatient, outpatient, day patient, and domiciliary services for children up to 16 years old.
These services are delivered across Wellington and Kenepuru hospitals, the Puketiro Centre, outreach clinics, and in the homes of children.
The Child Health Service is well-resourced, with a total of 49 inpatient beds/cots for infants, children, and young people.
The hospital features two main wards: a 23-bed medical ward (Piko), which includes a 9-bed short-stay unit, and a 17-bed surgical ward (Kowhai).
Additionally, there are 12 surgical day stay beds and a 3-bed day stay unit dedicated to children's cancer services.
