About the job Title: Stress/Structures Engineer Location: Hamilton Airport, Waikato Company: Vickers Aircraft Company, LTD Position Summary: This key role will lead and execute the stress/structural design and analysis of the Wave.
The engineer in this role will have a top-level understanding of the strategic direction of the organisation.
They will directly contribute to the aircraft design, material selection, testing and production support.
The engineer in this role will have the opportunity to contribute to multiple critical aspects of the aircraft such as aircraft structural layout, material selection, testing, compliance, and production support.
This engineer will also understand the strategic direction of the organisation, and provide leadership, guidance, and detailed expertise to support other team members.
Dependent upon skill level and experience, this person may lead teams or a department as the company grows.
Areas of Responsibilities: Structural analysis tasks include (but are not limited to) static strength analysis and optimisation, structural stability analysis, vibration analysis, and aeroelastic analysis.
Loads interpretation and refinement / generation for systems (primary flight control systems, landing gear systems, etc.).
Coordinate with other engineering team members to establish component and assembly structural requirements to result in optimum design solutions as a team.
Support design reviews with relevant structural analysis input.
Lead younger engineers on stress analysis aspects.
Develop and improve structural analysis tools that can be qualified and utilised by others with little oversight from yourself (e.g.
panel buckling, lug analyses, laminate stresses, and strains etc.).
Write Stress Reports that can ultimately be used for stating compliance against the relevant regulations.
Maintain and improve an aircraft level Global Finite Element Model which will be used in stating compliance against the relevant regulations.
Develop test plans and execute/coordinate testing to validate and verify analyses (also used in statements of compliance).
Create detailed Finite Element Models as required and validate results using hand methods.
Address Non-conformances arising from the production process (consider structural integrity, develop repairs, and justify).
Apply advanced composite materials (define and optimise layups and consider associated processes) to the design and fabrication of the aircraft.
Lead in the resolution of issues related to the manufacturing of composite parts and assemblies.
Develop Material and Process Specifications covering the procurement, design, and manufacture of parts (composite and metallic).
Takes an active role in the development of quality requirements for both incoming materials and fabricated components.
Required Skills and Experience: B.S.
or M.S.
in Mechanical, Structural, or Aerospace Engineering Composite structural experience for light aircraft, marine, autos, or other vehicles Hands-on composite fabrication experience 5+ years using any high-level CAD system, Solidworks strongly preferred.
Experience with Finite Element Analysis systems.
Experience with civil aviation regulations, CAA, FAA, etc.
5+ years of experience designing general aviation structures, including composites and metallic parts.
Other Traits: Team player Hands-on Self-starter Exposure to low or medium volume production environments Able to manage and execute work to schedule.
