Engineer II – Electron Avionics Development Rocket Lab is a global leader in launch and space systems. The rockets and satellites we build and launch enable some of the most ambitious and vital space missions globally, supporting scientific exploration, Earth observation and missions to combat climate change, national security, and exciting new technology demonstrations. Our Electron rocket has provided reliable access to orbit since 2018, becoming one of the most frequently launched rockets in the world. Neutron will be our next rocket on the launch pad, an advanced 13-tonne payload class, reusable rocket to launch the mega constellations of the future. Engineering is at the heart of Rocket Lab. Our engineering team has a proven track record of designing and developing world-class rockets and spacecraft that are changing the way we access and use space. You'll work alongside driven, talented engineers from varied backgrounds and experience levels, all committed to the same mission. WHAT YOU'LL GET TO DO: As the Avionics Development Engineer II, you'll be a key figure in our engineering team developing, testing, and deploying state-of-the-art avionics hardware and systems. The Engineer II is a highly technical go-to person, and point of contact for issues, questions, and design changes for nominated projects. This position requires strong technical skills in electronic circuit design, PCB design, and environmental testing at the component level. This includes but is not limited to flight computers, FPGAs, RF systems, and components used in guidance, navigation, and control. Our fundamental goal is to ensure our payloads reach orbit on time, every time while maintaining the safety of the public. Your role working with avionics hardware is critical to this mission, and the main line of defense to ensure the quality and reliability in a fast-paced production environment. YOU'LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or other engineering discipline 5+ years relevant industry experience 5+ years of experience with hardware development or electronics test engineering 3+ years of programming experience, preferably in Python, LabView, or C/C++ Proven trouble-shooting skills, ability to make recommendations with limited data, and demonstrated good engineering judgment by evaluating all options Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphere THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE: Knowledge of FMECA and experience with change management systems Experience in designing hardware (including analog, digital, or mixed-signal PCBs) from concept through production, and knowledge of environmental design testing (such as vibration, shock, thermal, and TVAC) Understanding of design for manufacture and manufacturing techniques for electronic components and electrical systems Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparing materials for external distribution If the above sounds like you apply now WHAT TO EXPECT: We're on a mission to unlock the potential of space to improve life on Earth, but that's not an easy task.
