The National Assessments Bureau (NAB) forms part of the New Zealand Intelligence Community and is located within the National Security Group in DPMC.
NAB is the primary agency charged with providing strategic national assessments on matters of national security and foreign policy to support our Prime Minister, Cabinet and security system leaders.
We are independent of the policy process.
As an assessments analyst you will be the go-to person on an area of national security priority, mastering your portfolio while working in a supportive and interdependent team.
You will closely monitor developments in your portfolio, become expert in identifying, sharing and confidently communicating emerging risks and trends, and assessing the implications of these for New Zealand.
To do this you will draw on a large amount of all source information and intelligence.
You will be open-minded, building connections outside NAB to test your thinking and inform others.
The role is Wellington based and requires working in a secure physical office environment.
The role and intended start date are conditional on obtaining and maintaining a Top Secret Special (TSS) clearance.
We are looking to appoint a small number of candidates at different levels.
The role levels will take into account work experience, existing specialist knowledge and capacity to quickly transfer skills, as well as to cover the range of organisational needs.
The Graduate Analyst role is generally a first professional role, with promotion considered within 2 years and a focus on learning about all aspects of joining the workforce and a role in NAB, DPMC and the public service.
Indicative starting range: $68,348 - $72,145 p/a
The Analyst role is for applicants with more experience including detailed subject matter knowledge, with capacity to transfer skills quickly to some aspects of a role at NAB, DPMC and the public service.
Assessments analysts have significant responsibility.
Indicative starting range: $80,516 - $84,989 p/a
The Senior Analyst role is for those with significant experience, deep and expert subject matter knowledge and capacity to transfer skills quickly, and leadership capacity.
Senior analysts lead international engagement initiatives, complex analytic projects and are nationally recognised experts.
Indicative starting range: $107,101 - $119,701 p/a

Some life and work experience that shows your ability to connect and cooperate with others, such as community service, would be desirable, but is not essential.
We will consider secondment arrangements.

Experience or study in disciplines aligned to the National Security Intelligence Priorities is desirable but not essential - this includes Asia, the Pacific, economics and science.
Cultural competency and language skills related to Asia and the Pacific are of high value.
