Join a team that's all about supporting communities across Aotearoa to thriveThe Kindness Collective (KC) is an award-winning charitable trust that spreads kindness by connecting children, families and communities in need with everyday essentials, moments of joy, care and connection. We support 287 community partners (including New Zealand Police, Te Whatu Ora, Iwi organisations, Social Services and NGOs) through our five nationwide programmes.
We were named Community of the Year at New Zealander of the Year Awards for 2023, and are the charitable partner of some of Aotearoa's most well-known brands and businesses.KC is in a period of growth and we're looking for an experienced, driven, and dedicated operations leader to lead the operations of our programmes and deliver exceptional outcomes for the whanau and communities we support. We're a small team of 10 staff and 12 contractors around the country and so require a hands-on, experienced operations leader, who is happy to roll up their sleeves and lead our operations team from the front, on the floor and not just from behind a computer. As a key member of the team, reporting to the CEO, our Head of Operations will drive operational excellence, manage the teams that manage the delivery of programmes effectively, and champion a culture of kindness, collaboration and innovation within the Kindness Collective. This role is responsible for:Operational Strategy: Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance operational performance and achieve impact across all objectives and programmes.Team Leadership: Provide strong leadership and guidance to the operations team (four to five direct reports) fostering a culture of kindness, collaboration, and continuous improvement of our team and volunteers.Process Optimisation: Identify areas for improvement and implement efficient processes and systems across our programmes, in our warehouse and in the community.Resource Management: Oversee resource allocation and financial management of the operations behind our programmes to ensure prudent use of funds and compliance with regulatory requirements.Risk Management: Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate potential threats and ensure business continuity within our programmes.Compliance: Ensure adherence to relevant legal and regulatory requirements, as well as maintenance of internal policies and procedures, to maintain organisational integrity and transparency.
You'll support our warehouse compliance, manage our annual audit process and keep up to date with all charitable trust requirements. You will have:Proven track record of operational excellence in management roles, preferably within the charity or NGO sector. You understand this is a hands-on role, with a small team, in year five of a start-up and this means all hands on deck at peak times, like Christmas.Bachelor's degree in business, non-profit management, or a related field preferred, but not essential. You're a doer.
You're happy to lend a hand on the floor in the warehouse to pack a food-box with your team when need be, just as much as spending time with our community partners or excelling at the administration behind our operations.
You're known for doing what it takes to get it done.Understanding of New Zealand charity operations, obligations, financial budget management within a project or programme and compliance requirements.Strategic thinker with a results-oriented mindset and a passion for driving social impact.
You'll ask every day, how do we do this better for the whanau we support?Proficiency in relevant software and technology platforms, including Excel.
Please note, you'll be tested on ExcelYou will have a commitment to respecting, understanding and learning from Te Tiriti o Waitangi and te ao Maori and be able to connect and work with people from all backgrounds. You're reliable and you care about what we're doing and why we're doing it.What we offer:The opportunity to be an instrumental part of the growth of a unique organisation doing things differently.Generous leave entitlements.Flexible working conditions and an understanding/respect that you have other commitments, including those to your whanau, friends and out of work interests.A supportive CEO and Trust Chair and board who will ensure you're keeping well in the workplace.A large, diverse community full of volunteers, partners, media partners, donors, individuals and community partners to work with and build a kinder New Zealand.Growth: you have the ability to grow, shape this role and the trust operations and with the right person, grow the role to work alongside the CEO and organisation more in a general management capacity.Kindness Collective has a strong commitment to building a diverse organisation.
