All about the role Come and join our team of Lifeguards at the Arena Aquatic Centre where you will work in a fun and engaging environment.
We are looking for a hardworking and dedicated person to be an active member of our team.
We'll provide all the training you need to be a fully certified New Zealand Lifeguard in swimming pools.
Porirua City is a living wage accredited employer and the starting hourly rate for a Lifeguard is $27.84.
As a Lifeguard you are responsible for:
the competent and professional supervision of our poolsensuring health and safety standards and procedures are followedcompleting water quality checksmaintaining outstanding presentation of our facilitiescontributing to ensuring a high level of customer satisfactionThis is a full-time role, and our team work rostered shifts covering all days of the week.
The operating hours of the Aquatic Centre are between 5:00 am and 9:30 pm weekdays and 7:00 am to 7:30 pm on weekends.
The roster rotates over three weeks, and you'll work as follows:
Saturday – Sunday: 11:00 am - 7:30 pmMonday, Tuesday: rostered days offSaturday – Sunday: rostered days offMonday - Friday: 8:30 am – 5:00 pmSaturday: rostered day offSunday: 7:00 am - 1:30 pmMonday - Thursday: 1:30 pm - 9:30 pmFriday: rostered day offChanges to the roster are by mutual agreement.
All about you It would be great if you have relevant experience working in an aquatic environment, although if needed we will provide you with excellent training for upskilling and First Aid Certification.
You will need to show us that you:
can swim competently and can maintain a required level of swimming fitnesscommunicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of peoplehave the ability to be calm in pressured situations and respond quickly following standard proceduresare reliable, punctual and practicalare passionate about creating a fabulous customer experience for our communityIf you are invited to an interview, you will be asked to complete a swim test which includes the following requirements:
50m Breaststroke swim25m side stroke swim5 minutes treading waterRetrieving an item from the deepest part of the pool (2m)Due to the age requirements of the National Lifeguard Award, applications will only be considered from people aged 16 years of age or older.
