**All about the role**

Come and join our team of Lifeguards at the Arena Aquatic Centre where you will work in a fun and engaging environment. We are looking for a hardworking and dedicated person to be an active member of our team.

We’ll provide all the training you need to be a fully certified New Zealand Lifeguard in swimming pools.

Porirua City is a living wage accredited employer and the starting hourly rate for a Lifeguard is $27.84.

As a Lifeguard you are responsible for:

- the competent and professional supervision of our pools
- ensuring health and safety standards and procedures are followed
- completing water quality checks
- maintaining outstanding presentation of our facilities
- contributing to ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction

This is a full time role, and our team work rostered shifts covering all days of the week. The operating hours of the Aquatic Centre are between 5:00am and 9:30pm weekdays and 7:00am to 7:30pm in the weekends. The roster rotates over three weeks, and you’ll work as follows:

- Saturday - Sunday: 11:00am - 7:30pm
- Monday, Tuesday: rostered days off
- Wednesday - Friday: 5:00am - 1:30pm
- Saturday - Sunday: rostered days off
- Monday
- Friday: 8:30am - 5:00pm
- Saturday: rostered day off
- Sunday: 7:00am - 1:30pm
- Monday
- Thursday: 1:30pm - 9:30pm
- Friday: rostered day off

Changes to the roster are by mutual agreement.

**All about you**

It would be great if you have relevant experience working in an aquatic environment, although if needed we will provide you with excellent training for upskilling and First Aid Certification.

You will need to show us that you:

- can swim competently and can maintain a required level of swimming fitness
- communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of people,
- have the ability to be calm in pressured situations and respond quickly following standard procedures
- are reliable, punctual and practical
- are passionate about creating a fabulous customer experience for our community.

If you are invited to an interview, you will be asked to complete a swim test which includes the following requirements:

- 200m swim in 6 minutes
- 50m Breast stroke swim
- 25m side stroke swim
- 5 minutes treading water
- Retrieving an item from the deepest part of the pool (2m)
