Senior Land Management Advisor at Land Information New Zealand, HamiltonWe are excited to announce a newly created Senior Land Management Advisor role within our Crown Property team.
This position is part of a recent change initiative aimed at fostering closer relationships with our customers and developing a more strategic approach to managing Crown property across New Zealand.
It's a unique opportunity to contribute to the responsible stewardship and sustainable use of Crown land for the benefit of current and future generations.As a key member of the Crown Property team, you will oversee the compliant and effective management of land, with a particular focus on Treaty settlements.
Building and maintaining strong, respectful partnerships with iwi will be central to your role as we honour Treaty obligations and work collaboratively to enhance the value and utility of Crown land.A significant part of your role will involve managing stakeholder relationships, particularly with Treaty partners, and overseeing the delivery of work through external service providers.
You will also handle reactive maintenance, process complex applications, and ensure compliance across a wide range of activities, including agriculture, forestry, and mining.The team for Land and Waterways:This role requires a solid understanding of land management, including processing complex applications, managing leases and renewals, and ensuring compliance through site inspections for a variety of activities.
You will provide expert advice on Crown land purchases and Treaty acquisitions, leveraging your knowledge of Treaty settlements and land management to achieve positive, long-term outcomes.We are seeking candidates with proven expertise in stakeholder engagement, particularly in environments requiring statutory decision-making, compliance management, and collaboration with external service providers.
Strong skills in contract and project management, as well as proficiency with system workflows and business processes, are essential.
The ability to deliver consistent, timely decisions in a fast-paced operational environment is critical to success.Experience in land management, forestry, mining, contracting, compliance, inspections, or asset management is essential, along with practical knowledge of planned and reactive maintenance.This is a challenging and rewarding role that offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio, often requiring travel to remote and rural locations for site inspections.More about you:Significant hands-on experience (7+ years) in land management or a closely related field, including scheduled and reactive maintenance, as well as asset management.Contract management, administration, and project management experience.In-depth knowledge of government legislation and public policy, including national policy statements and local authority regulations.Experience with and understanding of land-related laws and regulations, particularly the Resource Management Act 1991, Land Act 1948, Biosecurity Act 1993, Forests Act 1949.Experience in stakeholder engagement and relationship building, especially in environments involving multiple stakeholders, including iwi and government agencies.Experience with Treaty settlements and Maori-Crown relations, alongside a deep understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and strong iwi engagement skills.A valid unrestricted New Zealand Driver's Licence.Preferred, but not essential:A relevant qualification in contract or project management, or a related discipline.The expected appointing range for this position is $110,000 - $125,000, dependent on experience.Benefits:Interesting work which impacts Aotearoa as we care for whenua, moana and arawai.Eye & ear care reimbursements.Reduced Health Insurance Premiums.Diverse groups and networks.If eligible for paid parental leave, you will be entitled to a top-up payment for the first 18 weeks of the 26 weeks.A minimum of four weeks and three days annual leave.Toitu Te Whenua plays a vital role in understanding, developing, and caring for New Zealand's whenua, moana and arawai (land, sea and waterways).
