This is a key operational role and forms part of a small, close-knit team who maintain campgrounds, tracks and routes through a variety of changing landscapes.
Your mahi will see you involved across the Tauranga and the Karangahake District.The position will be focussed on:Checking and maintaining tracks, huts, bridges, stairways, campsites and DOC facilitiesSmall scale building workOperating chainsaws, scrub-bars, backpack sprayers, diggers and other minor earthwork machineryAssisting with the hands-on ecosystem work carried out by the Biodiversity teamInteraction with a large range of visitors as well as people from DOC's conservation partnershipsWorking alongside other DOC staff, contractors, volunteers and partnering with iwi.Nga pukenga me nga wheako | Skills and experienceWe are looking for a confident communicator and great team player who has a passion for protecting Aotearoa's heritage and visitor sites.If you have some of the following, we are keen to hear from you:Hands-on and practical skillsetPest control experienceA high level of physical fitness and experience in the backcountryAttention to detailAbility to work effectively in a team, take direction, or work independently when neededStrong commitment to safety protocols in the fieldA full New Zealand driver licenceA deep respect for Te Ao Maori and tikanga, with a genuine passion for working with whanau, hapu, and iwi.Ability to build and maintain positive relationships across diverse sectors, including public and private.Experience working alongside community groups, volunteers, and iwi, whanau, and hapu.Digitally savvy with the ability to quickly learn new systemsEmotional intelligenceDesirable:Experience and/or qualifications with chainsaws, scrub bars, 4WDS, LUVsGrowsafe, Controlled Substance Licence, First Aid certificateGIS and navigationEven if you don't tick all the boxes but believe your skills and experience closely align, then we still encourage you to submit an application.Nga ahuatanga kei a matou | What's in it for you?DOC places importance on developing a culture where everyone can participate, thrive, and grow.
