These roles are perfect for someone who is starting out or looking to take the next step in their analytics career.
The Domains team supports policy analysis, regulatory monitoring, and decision-making by delivering high-quality, trusted data assets and innovative analytical solutions.
It is made up of five data domains that support MBIE portfolios.
We support and influence the policy debate and provide direct advice to Government and information to stakeholders and the public.
As a Data Analyst, you will work closely with your peers to collect, manipulate and interrogate data to deliver robust analytical outputs to our customers and produce the quantitative insights and evidence required for them to be confident in their decision making.
You will be engaging with stakeholders within MBIE, across Government, and in the relevant sectors.
To do this, you will use your skills to ensure that analysis is accessible, well communicated, and fit-for-purpose.
Your commitment to innovation and generating new ideas and ways of doing things will ensure that the Ministry's data and analytical services remain fit-for-purpose to produce impactful insights for decision-makers.
You will have a background in econometrics, applied economics, statistics, or data science, including experience in R statistical programming language.
About the TeamsMarkets Domain team – 1 x Data Analyst The Markets Domain sub-team is responsible for the energy and resources portfolios.
It covers the entire data pipeline from primary data collection through to generating insights to inform decision-making.
This includes:
Sourcing and procuring dataProducing official statistics on the energy sectorFulfilling New Zealand's energy sector reporting obligations to international agenciesProducing projections of energy supply, demand and greenhouse gas emissionsUndertaking modelling and analysis to inform policy development and designIn this role, you will primarily support the delivery of the team's energy modelling work programme.
This includes analysing potential futures of energy supply and demand, producing analysis to inform policy development and design, and monitoring how policies are tracking.
You will help deliver on the team's broader work programme while building up expertise in the energy sector.
For this role, knowledge of modelling or forecasting would be beneficial.
Regions, Sectors, Business and Economic Development (RSBED) Domain team – 1 x Data Analyst This role reports to the Lead Domain Analyst (RSBED & SCI).
The RSBED Domain is responsible for building data systems and knowledge bases, being steward of data and analytics products, and providing data, analysis and modelling advice to support policy decision making in the RSBED domain.
In this role, you will participate in developing and maintaining complex data systems and products and provide data and analysis advice to internal and external clients and develop your skills and knowledge on data analytics and economic analysis/modelling through learning by doing.
For this role, experience in R and advanced Excel is preferred, and experience in SQL and/or Power BI would be beneficial.
