Cardiologist at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Te Matau a Maui Hawke's Bay, Hawkes BayPermanent, Full-time 80 hours per fortnight (1.0 FTE)Hawke's Bay Region renowned for food, wine, cultural events and outdoor activitiesHealth New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.About the RoleAs a general cardiologist, you will deliver inpatient cardiology care approximately one in five weeks and outpatient ambulatory services predominantly from our base in Hastings but also at Napier Health Centre and our rural hospitals in Wairoa and Central Hawke's Bay.There are many opportunities to develop subspecialist interests that will complement the department's current service, with high levels of unmet need present in our community.The department's facilities allow echocardiography, CT coronary angiography, cardiac MRI, exercise treadmill testing, ambulatory cardiac monitoring, a diagnostic angiography laboratory, and cardiac device implantation (as of this year).
Proficiency in left and right heart catheterisation studies, temporary pacing wires, and pericardial drains is important.About the Team/Service/LocationThe team is supported by one registrar, a house officer, inpatient cardiology nursing staff, a nurse practitioner, several clinical nurse specialists, and senior cardiology outpatient nurses, two cardiac sonographers, and two cardiac physiologists.We also have close ties with allied health services, other specialties within our hospital, as well as with Wellington Regional Hospital, our tertiary centre, which provides a comprehensive package of care including interventional cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery.Hawke's Bay offers excellent work-life balance, sun, beaches, exceptional outdoor adventures, great schools, mountains and skiing close by, wonderful food, stunning wineries, vibrant cities, and plenty more to boast about.About YouYou must be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Medical Council of New Zealand as a Specialist Cardiologist and must be a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, or equivalent.You should have proven experience in the following:Cardiological proceduresSupervision and teaching of junior medical staffWorking within a multidisciplinary teamDeveloping and maintaining effective clinical systemsWorking at Health New ZealandHealth New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.
