Explore more on Cubic.com.Job Details: Job DescriptionWe are seeking a talented Senior Mechanical/Process Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing mechanical components and processes to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize production processes. The candidate will be involved in all stages of mechanical and process design, from conceptualization to completion. They will perform complex mechanical engineering duties following designated standards and procedures. They will work closely with other engineering disciplines especially the Production and Testing teams. This position will report to the Mechanical Team Lead and typically works under general supervision and direction.PURPOSE OF THE ROLEDevelop and design mechanical components and subsystems.Participate in the design process to ensure that the product is "designed for manufacture".Take an active role in facilitating the transfer of products from design to manufacturing by generating a complete "manufacturing package" for manufacture in-house, Cubic de Mexico or at sub-contractors.Provide support throughout the life cycle of the product to maintain the production of a quality product efficiently.KEY RESULT AREAS/OUTPUTS Essential Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesProduct development and design of mechanical components within the companies Design Process framework.Participate in Product Design Reviews with the Design Team to ensure that all new products are produced in line with best manufacturing practices to produce a quality product efficiently and effectively (right first time).Assist Engineering to identify, analyse and resolve potential manufacturing issues in the prototype and pre-production stage.Assembly of prototypes and Engineering validation samples, checking and cross-referencing of the BOM's, BOM structure, drawings, and part numbers etc.Provide a formal report on the prototype and pre-production assemblies to identify all issues that need attention and to recommend ways of reducing the associated manufacturing risks.Generate the manufacturing package for production and sub-contractors that include:Assembly instruction (TP), to optimise the production process, to minimise overall timing costs and reduce manufacturing risk.Analysing the product assembly times to quantify labour content (man-hours) and subassembly process times.Identifying, designing and acquiring jigs, tools and test equipment that will be required for production.Training the production teams on the assembly process techniques and use of unique equipment jigs and fixtures.Design, install and commission the production line layout, including specialist production jigs, fixtures, and associated test equipment.Support the pre-production run processes managed by the Production Team Leader to ensure that the procedures in the TP's are strictly followed or amended if necessary. Update the TP's and recommend changes to BOM's and drawings to reflect the desired best production practice.Support the Production Team or sub-contractor in resolving issues throughout prototype, pre-production, and final production stages throughout the life cycle of the product.Investigate, evaluate, and introduce new manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, quality and reduce manufacturing costs.Evaluate and support investigations into field failures.Other duties as requested.MonitoringManage his or her own performance, activities, and tasks in accordance with instructions given by the Team Leader in line with the company goals.PlanningPlan and organise His or her tasks to meet company goals and schedules as instructed by the Team leader.Health and SafetyBe accountable for a health and safety culture by following all rules and procedures, reporting, and managing all hazards in the work area and actively contributing to, and participating in, company health and safety initiatives.Carry out and promote 5S exercises on a regular basis to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCETertiary qualification in the field of mechanical engineering or other relevant technical disciplineExperience required:Essential:5 years' experience in a similar role in similar industryAdvanced knowledge of mechanical design principles and techniques including design for manufacture and assemblyGood knowledge of plastic injection molded part designGood knowledge of machined metal and sheet metal part designGood knowledge of ruggedized product designKnowledge of finite element structural analysis, including calculations of stressesEffective written and oral communication skills to include the use of typical office automation products such as word processors and spreadsheets.Experience with 3D CAD systems (E.g., SolidWorks)DesirableExperience with lifecycle management systems (e.g. PLM)Knowledge of Model Based EngineeringWorkshop experienceCompetencies:Living One Cubic: Identifies with the larger organisation and their role within it, shares resources, responds to requests from other parts of the organisation, supports larger organisational initiatives and sees them as more important than local or personal goals.Ethics & Compliance: Demonstrates high level of trust and respect for others and maintains compliance with Cubic's polices, mission and values.Communication: Expresses information clearly, transparently, and disseminates appropriately in a timely manner.Results: Effectively balances and prioritises time and projects to meet deliverables and drive continuous improvement.Winning the Customer: Seeks to understand customer needs and challenges, works effectively with customers to resolve issues, provides exceptional service and deliverables that exceed customer expectations.Innovation: Applies information, imagination, and initiative to identify efficiencies, implement improvements and drive growth.Accountability: Takes personal responsibility for all work activities and actions; follows through on commitments and adheres to deadlines; implements decisions that have been agreed upon; acknowledges and learns from mistakes without blaming others; early transparency about risks and issues; recognises the impact of one's behaviour on others and the company.Condition of Employment:Successful outcome of a National Police CheckWorker Type: Employee
