IT&SM lead the provision of good practice IT, digital services, and systems in the areas of workplace technology, corporate business applications, digital engagement, digital document management, Information management, IT operations and desktop support.About the Role:We have a full-time permanent opportunity for a Principal Systems Engineer.
With this being a national role, it can be based at our Auckland airport office or Christchurch campus in Burnside.This is a critical engineering and leadership role focused on ensuring the security, availability, and performance of Airways' IT infrastructure (end-user computing devices and corporate infrastructure) that will see you drive technical excellence, mentor team members, contribute to IT strategy and make a direct impact on New Zealand's aviation services.This role goes beyond conventional responsibilities - you will have the chance to collaborate with dynamic cross-functional teams, including developers, architects, and project managers, fostering an environment where innovation and problem-solving thrive.As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will:Ensure the security, resilience, and performance of Airways' corporate IT infrastructure and end-user computing environment.Act as a technical lead and mentor for Senior Systems Engineers and other IT team members.Champion the adoption of modern technologies, including cloud services, automation, and infrastructure as code.Ensure compliance with security standards (ISO 27001, NIST), ITIL best practices, and regulatory requirements.Work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders, technology partners, and external vendors to optimize IT services.For a full list of tasks and responsibilities, please refer to the position description.About You:For success, you will hold a strategic mindset, technical depth, and the ability to translate business needs into scalable and secure IT solutions.
You will be known for building lasting, sustainable relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Additionally, you will hold:Relevant qualification be it a degree, diploma and/or vendor certification.7+ years' experience working with infrastructure in a principal or Senior systems role with demonstrable or equivalent experience.5 years or more experience in working in an Enterprise environment.Strong expertise in Microsoft environments, Microsoft 365, Azure AD, Intune, VMware, and Nutanix.Experience working with HP DHCI clusters / All-Flash storage hardware and ecosystems, including HPE NTX clusters and HPE Vsan clusters.Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g.
PowerShell, Bash, Graph) to automate routine tasks and streamline processes.Experience troubleshooting and debugging hardware and software.An understanding of generic coding and testing methodologies as well as server-based applications.Experience configuring, tuning, and optimizing.Knowledge of current (and legacy) applications and tools.Ability to work in a dynamic team and business environment, collaborate with people, show resilience and agility, take ownership and focus on delivering successful outcomes.Beneficial:Experience in backup and disaster recovery.Experience in working with HAM and SAM applications.Experience with Containers and the management thereof.Familiarity with UNIX operating systems and deliverables (including Linux).Demonstrable experience coaching and mentoring junior team members.About Our Offering:Airways offers a competitive package inclusive of a solid base salary and a generous superannuation scheme with employer contributions of up to 11% of earnings (T&Cs).
