Most activities on public conservation land, including interactions with protected wildlife, marine mammals, or marine reserves, require approval from DOC.
Our Permissions Teams process these applications and help to ensure that activities occurring on public conservation land are undertaken in a manner that protects the values of the land and complies with the legislation.
As a Senior Permissions Treaty Advisor, you will provide advice to Permissions Advisors and decision-makers to ensure we are giving effect to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.
You will also contribute to the development of operational policy and best practices in relation to the Treaty of Waitangi, as well as identifying training needs and working towards a consistent national approach to train and mentor staff.
The work is varied, with each application being very different from the next.
We receive applications from a wide range of individuals and business owners who have an interest in using DOC land or interacting with protected wildlife, such as tourism operators, other government agencies, land developers, and many others.
A great aspect of this role is certainly the relationships you'll build with various stakeholder groups and industries.
You'll be joining a strong, collaborative team that prides itself on producing professional and high-quality outputs.
Experience working with planning and/or legislative processes.Experience working with relevant conservation legislation.Experience analyzing large amounts of complex information to produce high-quality reports and succinct recommendations.Experience and skill in managing a busy caseload.Apply online with a CV and cover letter that highlights your relevant skills, experience, and motivation for applying for this role.
The salary range for this position is $79,656 - $100,639, with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory; this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
